First, it’s specific - you know exactly what you want to achieve. Second, it’s measurable. If you break it down, it comes to a bit more than a pound of weight loss per week. 

Third, it’s realistic. I’m all for shooting for the stars, but your goals should be achievable. If you set goals that are too large, you risk getting disappointed and giving up soon after.

Fourth, it’s time-bound. You have a starting point (ideally, today), and an endpoint - 12 weeks from now.

So What Makes This Goal Better?

It sounds simple enough (and it is), but making specific goals with clear timelines makes it much more likely for you to follow. The progress you make gives you instant feedback that you’re moving in the right direction. This creates a cycle of achievement-motivation where you become more and more enthusiastic as you progress toward your objectives.
